Social Security Employee Contributions

Social Security Contributions are payable at the rate of 10% of wages with the employers having the right to deduct 5% from their employees’ earnings. There are weekly and monthly ceilings beyond which no further Social Security Contributions are payable. Please enquire for current ceilings. A contribution is not payable for any week Monday - Saturday, the whole of which the employee receives Sickness or Maternity Benefit.

When should employees begin paying contributions?

Contributions should be payable in the case of an Employee attaining the age of fifteen (15) years for the week in which that person reaches that age.

When should employees cease paying contributions?

Contributions shall cease in the case of an Employee attaining the age of sixty five (65) years for the week in which the employed person reaches that age provided that the birthday does not fall on the Monday of the week in question. However if the 65th birthday falls on the Monday of the week in question, contributions are payable.
